Essendon Festival - a hard day's work
|
Well I'm stuffed! I know - not nice language from a well brought up young pup - but when I tell what I had to do today I'm sure you'll be saying 'you poor pup' and other stuff like that! When Rupe came back from his walk, I got off Franny's bed 'cause i figured it was my turn to go to the park- I luuurve the park! Well, franny put the lead away and jumped in the shower - 'bummer - there goes my walk', I thought - but I misjudged Franny 'cause when she got out of the shower, she put on dog school clothes- and guess who goes to dog school with her- Yup! the yellow dog! [Of course, I usually have to look after the water bucket and Franny's training bag while she instructs, but she usually lets me meet all the 'Bubs' in puppy class, and often heaps of people come to chat with me, so it's pretty cool.] Into the car and off we go - but hang on, this isn't the way to dog school! this is the way to Joey's - hope Mum's not going to leave me in the car while she and Joey visit - boy! those two can sure talk. - But they both came out pretty quick, and Joey drove Franny's car to - you'll never guess where - this big, big park - I looked around pretending to be really cool but my tail jammed itself between my legs very quickly! there was all this NOISE! louder than when we went to that Agi show - probably more like when Franny took me to the Royal show for 'meet the breed' - then I remembered - I had a pretty good time that day - so I relaxed a bit . We walked past all these funny houses [Franny called them tents], past big, noisy, bright coloured 'things' that made lots of noise [franny said 'keep walking' so I did], past houses/tents that had beautifool smells coming from them, and people every where! I was so confused I didn't even want to sniff the ground or any of the trees. We went along another path, through some bushes and then I saw it - WATER!! - OH NO! NOT WATER! but then Franny veered away [phew!] and walked over to a tent and guess who was there? people and dogs from dog school- Yay!!! Well, if I thought it was going to be like dog school - I was wrong. 'Today', Franny said, 'You have to work, this is a festival and we are representing dog school. Your job, Harvey, is to be friendly but polite to all the people, children and other dogs who will want to talk to you. You will need to show how well you can do as you are told. Lots of people will want to take photos, so you need to be still for these, and many people will rudely allow their dogs to jump all over you and sniff the 'sniffy' bits whilst you may not reciprocate, OK?' 'GOLLLLY, that's a lot to ask a young dog.' I thought. Franny then told me she had the utmost confidence in me-and so, I had photos, and more photos taken, I was patted and patted and patted, I was cuddled and sat beside, I was given chips and fairy floss [yuk!] and Franny let me lick her empty cup after she had drunk her hot chocolate. I WAS T'RIFFIC! All the other dogs from dog school decided they had better hang around me 'cause they weren't getting any attention. Then Franny and Marcia decided Phoebe and I could play 'statues', I would stand still and Phoebe would walk underneath me and 'sit stay', or walk between my back legs under my tummy and out through my front legs - boy! did we get lots of attention. I really wanted to wee, Franny kept taking me away from the crowded bits and encouraging me, but I was too shy - all these people were watching [a fella's got to have a bit of privacy, hasn't he?], then Marcia brought Phoebe over and she wee'd, gee it smelt good, Franny encouraged me lots and lots, but people were STILL watching, I just had to hang on. Franny said I was a 'duffer' - I don't think she was being mean- do you? Eventually people began to pack up and go home, Phoebe and I had to do 'statues' one last time for the people from the camera club, and then we were allowed to go home. When we got back to the car, I jumped in quickly [for me] and we were home in no time - I raced up into the yard and peed and peed and peed. Now I have to repeat this whole story to Rupe. RooRooo |
