Loveable pet Macey has proved that she really is a Great Dane by giving
birth to sixteen pups.
The two year old pedigree blue spent a gruelling 20 hours producing
her amazing litter.
She was expected to have just three or four. But just like that other
famous Great Dane Scooby-Doo, Macey does not do things by halves.
She went into labour and her puppies just kept coming and coming. Sadly
one died, but Macey is still the proud mum of 15 new arrivals.
Startled owners Daniel and Jennifer Wilding have decided to keep one
pup for themselves and are now looking for homes for the others, none
of whom have names.
Daniel 29 from Urmston Manchester, who bought Macey as a 7 week old
pup said, "We have got our hands full for sure!"
"We decided to let Macey have a litter because we wanted to have
one of her pups. She has a lovely temperament. We had her mated a couple
of months ago and found out that she was pregnant through the vets.
They said they could feel up to four puppies and we were totally stunned
when she had 16."
Vet Krisine Pearson said "Great Danes often have large litters
but this is Exceptional. We felt three or four lumps but we did not
think that she would have such a large litter. Even for one of the bigger
breeds of dogs this is an awful lot of pups. To have this many is quite
rare. Macey and her pups are doing very well."
